Exploring Movie Props with Alexander and Dan: From Set to Shelf Podcast

From Set To Shelf is a new podcast focused on the culture of collecting television and movie memorabilia and those involved, as well as those who work on the magic to bring it to life. This podcast is hosted by fellow collectors Dan Gastin and Alexander Komarov. Season one premiered on October 14, 2025, with an introductory episode where Dan and Alexander each provided background and insights into their collecting habits. Alexander Komarov is an avid collector of the Austin Powers screen-used memorabilia only, amassing a groovy collection from the trilogy of films, and Dan Gastin has items from Beetlejuice and Small Soldiers, a favorite film of his, along with other amazing props, and has previously worked at the Prop Store.

The overall format of this podcast is to showcase collectors, prop masters, costume designers, and other industry-related guests with a focus on props, costumes, and associated topics. Season one will have ten episodes with nine already published, guests featured include, Andrew Merget; a horror prop collector, SFX Artist Thomas Bellissimo, Scott Babcock; How The Grinch Stole Christmas collector, Zed Richards; Ghostbusters collector, Ross Cooper; Arnold Schwarzenegger collector and Ian Grant a Gremlins collector.

With their first season of the podcast coming to a close with the publication of episode 10 soon, the Collector’s Hype Blog took the opportunity to correspond with Alexander and Dan to get their thoughts on season one and see what is next.

Describe what sets your podcast apart from any others that focus on the same hobby? “We believe our podcast provides collectors and industry professionals a platform to share their stories in an authentic, relatable way. Regardless of the collecting area, prices often set collections apart, and not everyone can spend a significant amount of money in every auction, so we hope that our podcast speaks to the “everyday collector” and creates a communal feel to the prop-collecting community. By speaking to collectors regularly, we believe this creates a personal glimpse into the community.”

Has hosting a props podcast taught you anything? “Interviewing people from a wide range of backgrounds has been rewarding, and we have learned a ton from each guest. Specifically, each collector comes from a different background with their own “origin story” that ignited their journey, but we have noticed one common variable: the unmatched passion for their collecting niche. On the flip side, industry professionals (e.g., Tom Bellissimo) lived through and crafted the props, costumes, and memories that we collectors cherish, so being able to hear personal anecdotes provides life to the inanimate objects that we collect. Another rewarding aspect of interviewing the industry professionals is to see and hear their reactions to sharing their experiences, as these recounting’s are more likely than not the first time they’re revisiting these scenes since the day they were on set.”

Is there something you want folks to know about your podcast? “We enjoy doing it and hope to add value to the community with each episode. Additionally, we would love for more people to write in, as we would like to feature more collectors and hear feedback.”

Alexander and Dan provided details on season two of the podcast, which will start in April 2026. They have plans for more in-depth interviews with collectors, industry professionals, topics related to the hobby, and occasional auction coverage, providing many viewpoints, insights, and stories worth listening to.
