Welcome to Collector’s Hype!

Hello, my name is James, and I am a collector of original film and television props, wardrobe, and production-related memorabilia.

I became interested in collecting back in the 1990’s after I saw legendary collector and movie prop preservationist Bob Burns on television showcasing his incredible collection of various film & television memorabilia including some of the stories behind each piece he’d acquired over the years. I didn’t realize at the time that someone could actually seek out and collect those cool props from my favorite television shows and movies. To that end Bob had a positive influence on my desire to want to start a collection of my own someday.

My collecting of original movie props and costumes really picked up in the 2000’s. The high-profile nature of the Star Trek auctions at Christie’s and It’s A Wrap really got me excited as I am a big fan of Star Trek in all its incarnations. It was shortly after that Christie’s auction that I began my collection journey. Since then, I am always looking to add something unique and exciting to my collection.

Science Fiction movies and television shows are my favorite genre to collect original items from, as they transport me to imaginative worlds filled with endless stories. To me, collecting can be a fun experience that allows people to connect with the stories and characters that have influenced their lives, and you should collect what you truly like. Whether it’s a rare signed piece from a beloved series or a small, overlooked prop from a classic film, the size or value of what you collect is irrelevant as long as there is enjoyment in it.

My overall goal for the Collector’s Hype Blog is to share news, information, and resources about Original Film and Television props, wardrobe, and production memorabilia with those who visit.
