Lasting two seasons on HBO from 2005-2007 Rome is set in the 1st century BC, during Ancient Rome’s transition from Republic to Empire. The series was very expensive to produce which is what lead to the cancellation of the show. Rome was also highly regarded for both the acting, writing and overall look.
